Day 14 and 15 : HEALTHY on a BUDGET

Hey yall!

It has been a pretty good 3 day weekend!  Hope you had a great one!

I missed blogging yesterday since it was super busy with a date night and then I was not feeling well.  I have heart palpitations and have been having them more frequently.  I have them every now and and then since I was in high school so it is something that happens once in awhile.  Well, yesterday I had them in the evening, all through the night and this morning so I went to my cardiologist. I plam to keep a more well rounded diet with healthy foods and what not and see if my palpitations get back under control.    I will see her in a few weeks for a stress test and then she will figure out where to go from there.  So guess I will have more post with my meals for the day consisting of actual meals or shakes I make out of fruit or veggies and yogurt and what not and more ideas for breakfast and lunch.

Soooooooo I'm back!  I really did miss writing yesterday!  Some of my friends have talked about how it is hard to eat healthy do to how expensive it is and yes that could be the case sometimes but it can be done.  I have found some great links for ways to stay healthy on a budget.  It is also important to not eat out as often or at all to be healthier so that money one uses on eating out often can be saved or even put towards the healthier food items you would buy.  Also, if meat was not included in every single meal that would save money too.  Using coupons or finding deals, buying produce that is in season are all ways to make your dollar go further!!!!!

Click on the links below, get a piece of paper and a pen and you can find some great ways to incorporate healthier options with your budget.  So write them down and head to the store!

CHEAP and HEALTHY meals and food for $100 a month

The website above offers recipes for a week and a shopping list to go with it.  It was pretty cool and I plan to try to take that challenge one of these days and see if I too can only spend $100 for a month of groceries.  I know some of you have children or more people in your home so it may be a little more than this but maybe give it a try and see what you could do! The rest of the links are pretty much explain themselves.

TIPS on being HEALTHY and THRIFTY

I was supposed to do my FIT TEST for INSANITY today but decided to just do it tomorrow morning or afternoon before tomorrow's scheduled workout.  I didn't want my palpitations to start again so I decided to take it easy today.  I did make a yummy dinner today.  I had a few shrimp, multi-grain angel pasta and sauteed spinach.

Sauteed shrimp, chopped garlic, tomatoes and red onion, cracked black pepper and sea salt with some Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Fresh spinach (I should of made more) and sauteed it with garlic and  a few drops of olive oil

I tried Dr. OZ's metabolism boosting green tea called Tangerine Weight-Orade Recipe.  All you need is a tangerine, 8 cups of brewed green tea and fresh mint leaves!  It is said to help your metabolism.  Green tea is shown to boost your immune system by 12% by drinking just one cup, tangerine has a chemical composition that increases sensitivity to insulin and stimulates genes that help to burn fat and min is a calorie free flavor enhancer.

I brewed the tea with hot water from my coffee pot

Brew 8 cups of water with 8 tea bags for 3 minutes, then add tangerines and mint

Put in a pitcher over night so the flavors can fuse together

I added honey for some sweetness.  Just don't add sugar but agave nectar could work too.

Oh yea, here is the final product for my dinner!

Here is a picture of one of my favorite fruits, Blood Oranges.  I can usually find these at Whole Foods and Market Street.

I love them!  So sweet!

Well anyway!  It is getting late!  Tomorrow is "TEMPTATION TUESDAY" so let me know what your temptations are tomorrow!!!!

Until next time folks, happy eating!
